Zen and the Art of Independent Insurance Adjuster Time Management

time management for adjusters

Take a deep breath and let it out. It’s all going to be ok. You have a lot to do every day and time isn’t always on your side. When you’re over stressed, unfocused, and unmotivated it is difficult to get anything done. Join us for an enlightening look at what can elevate your time management skills…

Be One with Prioritizing

Every morning you wake up to a plethora of daily tasks. From appointments and paperwork to endless phone calls and dealing with Xactimate. The tasks that must be completed (can’t be put off, no exceptions) that day are going to be your top priorities. Focus on completing them first, then move on to what is next to be done. You will feel more accomplished and motivated.

Create Organized Bliss

Always experience the satisfaction of finding what you’re looking for with the power of organization. Create a checklist of everything you need for appointments. Organize where you can easily find what you need. Keep extras and backups of certain things like pens, shingle gauges (they seem to get up and walk away very easily), tape measures, back up camera (incase your main one malfunctions), and forms. Organize your computer files and bookmark important websites so you can easily find them. It’s all about making things easier for you. Remember – work smarter, not harder.

Defeat Procrastination

When you are overwhelmed or unmotivated it is easy to fall into the familiar habit of procrastinating. This can lead to a whole host of problems that thwart productivity even more – making it almost impossible to complete tasks on time. Closing claims is the name of the game, my friend, and it’s important you stay on track. One of the best ways to defeat procrastination is staying motivated . Prioritize what you need to do and finish one thing at a time. Set small goals to achieve each day. When you build up motivation you will naturally stop procrastinating and a successful way of working will come much easier.

Elevate Your Mood

How are you feeling? Stressed? Angry? Annoyed? Depressed? Your mood has a great impact on your ability to accomplish tasks. As an independent insurance adjuster, you deal with stressful situations almost on a daily basis. One thing leads to another and the next thing you know you’re distraught and can’t focus on anything but the negative. But, this doesn’t have to be a regular occurrence in your life if you know how to deal with these emotions in a healthy way. You can:

  • create a de-stress kit with the stress balls, calming essential oils, a dammit doll, a pack of Popsicle sticks to break, or just put together whatever can calm you down in a pinch and help you move on.
  • Learn some breathing exercises that keep you from raising your voice when someone is being unpleasant.
  • Know when to walk away from certain situations.
  • Talk to someone about it

The goal is to not dwell in a bad mood but know what is causing it and deal with it so you can continue with what you need to do.

To effectively manage your time, focus on your top priorities, get organized, avoid procrastination, and don’t let negative vibes keep you down. You’re going to do great! If you have great tips to manage time better, please share in the comments below.
